Sreesanth, others charged with MCOCA

The Special Cell of the Delhi Police has slapped S Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankit Chavan with the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) for their involvement in spot-fixing in the Indian T20 League.

The three arrested cricketers played for the Rajasthan franchisee and are to be produced in a Delhi court for a hearing on their bail application. Twenty-three others, also arrested during the spot-fixing probe, also faced MCOCA charges.

With the latest development, it appears unlikely that the cricketers would be granted bail today.

The police is also suspecting the involvement of the underworld in the spot-fixing racket.

Sreesanth, Chandila and Chavan were arrested on May 15 in Mumbai by a Delhi Police team prompting the franchisee to suspend all three cricketers. The Rajasthan owners also lodged a criminal complaint against the players while the BCCI also suspended the pacer and two spinners.
Chavan was granted bail till June 6 to get married to his girlfriend of eight years.
