India and the West Indies have met 106 times in ODI cricket with the West Indies winning 57 matches and India 46, with one tie and two no-results. India has won nine of their last 12 meetings.

They have met three times in the ICC Champions Trophy with the West Indies leading 2-1.  They won by six wickets at Dhaka in 1998 and by three wickets at Ahmedabad in 2006. India won by seven wickets at Johannesburg in 2009.

India was joint-winner of the tournament in 2002.  The West Indies won in 2004.

Recent ODI form

India has won five and lost three of its eight ODI matches in 2013.  It beat South Africa by 26 runs at Cardiff in its first match, having beaten Sri Lanka by five wickets at Birmingham and Australia by 243 runs at Cardiff in its warm-up matches.

The West Indies have played nine ODIs in 2013, losing the first five in Australia before winning their last four.  They beat Pakistan by two wickets at The Oval in their first match, having lost to Australia by four wickets at Birmingham and beaten Sri Lanka by 17 runs at the same venue in their warm-up matches.

No matter what the result, India will stay top of the Reliance ICC One-Day International Championship.  Victory for the West Indies would move them above New Zealand into seventh place.  Defeat and they will remain eighth.

Virat Kohli is India’s highest-ranked batsman in third place.  In his last 18 matches he averages 65.66 with five centuries.  MS Dhoni is one place behind him, with Suresh Raina also in the world’s top 20.

Ravindra Jadeja took 2-31 in nine overs against South Africa and has 15 wickets at 15.53 in his eight matches in 2013 to make him India’s highest rated bowler in sixth.

R Ashwin is also inside the top 20 bowlers, and Ishant Sharma has 13 wickets in eight ODIs so far this year, despite bowling expensively against South Africa.

Kieron Pollard is the highest-ranked West Indian with the bat – currently in 32nd place.  After averaging just 21.52 in his first 50 ODIs, he has upped that to 37.95 with three centuries in his last 26 matches.

Chris Gayle is surprisingly low in 34th place having struggled of late.  His innings of 39 against Pakistan was his highest in his last 12 matches.

Sunil Narine took 3-34 against Pakistan to reach 50 ODI wickets and extend his lead at the top of the bowling rankings to 22 points.

Kemar Roach’s devastating opening spell pushed him up to a career-best 15th place.
