Gurunath, Vindoo in jail till June 14

Gurunath Meiyappan and Vindoo Dara Singh were sent to judicial custody till June 14 after their police custody came to an end.

Two bookies, Prem Taneja and Alpesh Patel were also sent to judicial custody by the court after days of interrogation by Mumbai Police.

Gurunath, team principal of the Chennai franchisee and son-in-law of BCCI president N Srinivasan was arrested on suspicion of betting and passing on team information to Vindoo who had links to bookies.

India Cements, which owns the Chennai team has since maintained that Gurunath was just an Honorary member of the side while Srinivasan claimed that his son-in-law was just an enthusiast, who traveled with the team.

However, Gurunath has always been projected as the team principal, appearing in TV interviews, player auctions and confidential team owners' meetings in that capacity. Police had recovered visiting cards from his residence in Chennai which stated that Meiyappan was indeed the team principal.

Even his twitter handled claimed that Gurunath was a team principal but that was updated soon after India Cements distanced itself from the BCCI boss's son-in-law.

The BCCI president, in a working committee meeting on Sunday, stepped aside after the Board decided that former president Jagmohan Dalmiya would take over as head of the group that would look after day-to-day affairs till an internal probe commission submitted its report.

Gurunath, Vindoo and the two bookies have already moved for bail, which would be heard today at a Mumbai court.
