Ankeet Chavan granted bail till June 6

Ankeet Chavan, one of the three Rajasthan cricketers accused of spot-fixing, has been granted conditional bail by a Delhi court to enable him attend his wedding.

Chavan, who is currently housed at the Tihar jail along with S Sreesanth and Ajit Chandila, will be out of prison until the 6th of June but will be under police cover.

Chavan, who is set to get married on the 2nd of June, was sent to judicial custody along with his two team-mates by the Saket Court, which had rejected his bail application on May 26.

In his latest requisition, which was granted by the court, Chavan had sought bail on grounds that his marriage was scheduled on the 2nd of June and in case the event does not take place, it would tarnish his reputation and that of the bride to be.

While mentioning that the wedding invitation cards have already been distributed and all preparations for the marriage are done, Chavan in his plea also said that he has been falsely implicated in the case with no direct evidence against him.

Chavan, who has been granted bail after agreeing to deposit two sureties worth Rs 1 lakh each and a personal bond worth one lakh, will have to return to the Tihar jail on the 6th of June.
