New Delhi:
Mumbai Cricket Association
President Ravi Sawant has been chosen to take charge of the treasurer's
post in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The decision
was taken by the working committee of the Board which met here on
Monday.
The post was vacant when Ajay Shirke resigned following widespread criticism of the BCCI's handling of the spot-fixing and betting issues in the Indian Premier League. Sawant though will now take over despite Shirke being previously asked to reconsider his decision to which he had refused.
It has been learnt that only one member in the working committee - IS Bindra - opposed Sawant's appointment which otherwise had the full backing of members present. Seen as an influential administrator, Sawant had pipped Ratnakar Shetty to the post of MCA President in August last year.
