Watson keen to move on from India tour

Australia opener Shane Watson is keen to put the catastrophic tour of India behind him as the team prepare for the start of the ICC Champions Trophy.

Watson failed to fire on the sub-continent, with the New South Welshman averaging 16.5 in his six innings as Australia lost the Test series 4-0. He was also infamously suspended for the third Test, along with Usman Khawaja, James Pattinson and Mitchell Johnson, after failing to meet team standards before briefly returning home to Australia for the birth of his first child with his international future in doubt.

"Whatever happened throughout India, certainly for me personally, was the lowest point in my cricket career, there's no doubt about that," he said.

However, Watson, who returned to captain Australia in the fourth Test after Michael Clarke was ruled out through injury, is confident the sideshow that was their Indian tour is now buried after showing a return to form with a century in the Champions Trophy warm-up win over West Indies on Saturday.

Watson added: "The decisions that were made were made for a reason and we certainly have to move forward as a team because we've got two series back-to-back of the biggest cricket we'll ever play."

Watson acknowledged the sizeable tasks ahead of Australia in the near future, with the objective of reclaiming the Ashes high on the priority list.

However, he warned that if they dwell on their shortcomings in India there will be no success in England.

"We've got a lot of big cricket coming up so we've got to put all the things that happened to us in India behind us," he said.

"We've got to find ways to get the best out of ourselves as individuals and as a team. If we don't then it could be a long 10 months, but if we're able to bring it together then we could have a lot of fun."

Australia take on India on Tuesday in their second and final warm-up fixture in Cardiff, ahead of their Champions Trophy opener against England at Edgbaston on Saturday.
